“Splashup, formerly Fauxto, is a powerful editing tool and photo manager. With all the features professionals use and novices want, it’s easy to use, works in real-time and allows you to edit many images at once. Splashup runs in all browsers, integrates seamlessly with top photosharing sites, and even has its own file format so you can save your work in progress.”

OK, I know that Adobe is releasing their version of Photoshop as an online tool. However, I came across this online image editor that has many of the most common functionalities of Photoshop. Splashup runs as an Adobe Flash application, so as long as your browser has the required plug-in (and I’m sure it does) you can edit and manipulate your photos. You can upload images from your computer, get them from the web, or browse your Flickr, Facebook, Picasa etc. profiles for photos. You can even import an image from a webcam!

Once the image is in Splashup, you have a “bevy” of options to manipulate the photo. There is layer, blend mode, and opacity support so you can really create some cool effects directly from you web browser. It’s of course a scaled down version of what Photoshop offers, but if you just need to make some quick edits to some photos and aren’t sitting at your development computer, this is a great alternative.

Best of all, this is a free service. you will have to sign up in order to save images and to use their photo sharing service, but that shouldn’t pose any problems.

If you’re interested, take a look at Splashup!
